Beaumaris Castle and South Stack Lighthouse, Anglesey, North Wales

Beaumaris Castle - The last of King Edwards I (Longshanks)Welsh Castles T he last of King Edward 1’s, 4 mighty castles located in North Wales. (Anglesey) T he castle was designed by the Savoyard mason Master James of Saint George Beaumaris was built from 1295 CE (r.   1272-1307 CE) to protect his territorial gains in the region . The castle featured the latest defensive designs of the period such as round towers, inner and outer circuit walls, massive towered gates and a fortified dock. It was never finished due to lack of funds and trouble brewing in Scotland so King Edwards resource and focus shifted. It was on my bucket list for quite some time (due to Covid amongst other things) before I got to visit and the wait was worth it. Even though it’s not finished, it’s magnificent. Almost symmetrical and very heavily fortified, with its position on the banks of the River Seiont, it’s very impressive. Ive visited all 4 now, I haven’t been inside Harlech as it was closed when we visited...

Thinking about Lostwithiel Cornwall? Check out our best 10 attractions including Spectacular Beaches with photographs.

Location, Location, Location   This visit to Cornwall was a business trip, so we chose The Fowey Valley Hotel in Lostwithiel due to its ideal location for us, although Lostwithiel is a small town it’s location is well positioned if you plan on visiting the local scenic quaint harbours and beaches.  The Fowey Valley is a very reasonably priced hotel with good facilities, and comfortable furnishings, the food was very good, both the evening meal and breakfast with a good selection.                              We found the staff very efficient friendly and accommodating. There is plenty of free parking on site, but make sure you remember to register your car at reception to avoid fines.  We visited the following places before we ran out of time. - Looe, 26 minute drive - Polkerris, 15 minute drive ( a lovely place to enjoy a warm evening either in the Rashleigh Arms...
