English
Heritage volunteer
As
a volunteer for English Heritage, I monitor Kingswood Abbey Gatehouse in
Kingswood, near Wotton-Under-Edge, a 12th Century Cistercian Monastery. ( currently being refurbished)
The role is very flexible and the hours and duties I perform are very manageable, this is made even easier as the gatehouse is in very close proximity to my house.
My duties fit completely around my life.
In turn I receive a free annual membership which gives me access to all of the English Heritage collection which is fantastic along with discounts on English Heritage products.
It’s very rewarding and it’s nice to be involved in preserving our history, and these stunning sites.
Today
all that stands is the impressive 15th century Gatehouse that controlled access
to the Monastery.
The
Abbey was closed in 1538 during the dissolution of the Monasteries.
Below
is a link to the English Heritage website and pictures of a few of the sites I
have visited including Kingswood Abbey Gatehouse.
Why
not look into the various roles yourself, there is a lot more than meets the
eye and could be the addition to your day to day that you are looking
for.
