An atmospheric visit under a bleak winter sky to Haughmond Abbey, a ruined Medieval Augustinian Monastery

Haughmond Abbey  Haughmond Abbey located in Shrewsbury in Shropshire around a 1 0 minute drive from Albrighton Hall and Spa which is where we were staying for the evening (reviewed in another post  https://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/albrighton.en.html?aid=8023173&no_rooms=1&group_adults=2 ) We visited as it was convenient for our stay, not knowing a great deal about the Abbey and what to expect, it made for a very enjoyable impromptu experience.  The Abbey covers quite a large area and there is still several large ruined pieces of the structure to enjoy.  Being part of the English heritage collection it is well maintained, there is a small exhibit  inside the office. A medieval fortress of dreams that's a must visit for the family or dedicated Castle enthusiast - Kidwelly Castle

Short break and day trip ideas  Kidwelly Castle, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, Wale s  Third stop on our Welsh Castle Tour (Max and me) Wow, what a Castle - out of the 3 we have visited the other 2 although great for other reasons don’t compare to Kidwelly. This is the medieval fortress of everyone’s dreams, Castle fanatic or not.  Although Kidwelly is in ruins, there is still so much intact to explore, walk around and access. Max and I are already planning our next visit as can’t wait to go back, this was Max's favourite by far and has been designing great halls on Minecraft ever since. We also want to try the Old Moathouse pub next door, the food looked and smelt very good, we only had time for a drink as we had to get back on the road.  The Old Moathouse link  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063512354869   Fun fact Kidwelly appeared in ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’.  Kidwelly origins began in the early 12th century and by 1280 the...
